Seismic wave

An energy wave cause by an earthquake.

Primary wave

Waves goes through the crust, mantle, outer core, and the inner core. Can go through solid and liquid.

Secondary wave

Waves only go through the crust and the mantle and cannot go through liquid.

Surface wave

When primary waves and secondary waves reach the surface.

Density

How much mass per volume.

Tension

It creates a normal fault in an earthquake.

Compression

It creates a reverse fault in an earthquake.

Shearing

It creates a strike-slip fault in an earthquake.

Reverse fault

It happens when it's pushed together from an earthquake.

Normal fault

It happens when it's pulled apart from an earthquake.

Strike-slip fault

It happens when it's pushed together and pulled apart from an earthquake.

Fault block mountains

It is formed from tension which happens from an earthquake.

Folded mountains

It is formed from compression which happens from an earthquake.

Ring of fire

Area in the Pacific Ocean where volcanoes are common.

Lithosphere

Is a crust and the top of the mantle.

Continental Drift

The continental drift is when the continents move and spread what it is like today.

Plate Tectonics

It makes earthquakes, makes volcanoes, and it floats on the upper part of the mantle called the asthenosphere.

Pangea

It used to be one big continent called Pangea.

Lithospheric Plates

Plate tectonics explains why and how the large sections of the earths crust move.

Convection Currents

Are currents that moves the plate tectonics

Divergent Boundary

It creates earthquake and volcanoes, the lithosphere is formed, and it's in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Seafloor Speading

It is when magma under water spreads across the floor to make new layer of the floor.

Convergent Boundary

Creates earthquake, volcanoes, mountain formation, the lithosphere is destroyed, and it's in the Himalayas.

Subduction Zones

It is created from the convergent boundary, either from oceanic to continental or oceanic to oceanic.

Transform Boundary

It creates earthquake, the lithosphere neither happens to it, and it's in the Himalayas.

Focus

It is where the earthquake starts underground.

Epicenter

It will receive the most waves from the earthqukes.

Triangulation

It is a prediction where the earthquake will be at.

Seismograph

It is a piece of equipment of a ball that swings from earthquakes and it will show you how strong the earthquake is.

Seismogram

It is a recording of the earthquakes to see how strong the earthquake is.
