Seismic Waves

- an elastic wave in the earth produced by an earthquake or other means.

Primary Wave

- a "longitude" wave that moves out from earthquake focus. It travels the fastest out of all of the 3 waves, and moves through solid and liquid layers of the earth.

Secondary Wave

- a "transverse" wave that is more out from the earths focus. This wave is more slower then primary wave, and can only go through solid rock.

Density

- how much mass per volume

Focus

- the focus of the earthquake is the point in the crust, or mantle, where then energy is released.

Epicenter

- is the point on earths surface directly above the focus; energy that reaches the surface is greatest at this point.



Triangulation

- identifies the epicenter of an earthquake

Seismograph

- A tool that measures seismic waves

Seismogram

- the vibration record, called seismogram looks liked jagged lines on a paper
