List the 4 layers of the atmosphere.
1. Troposphere
2. Stratosphere
3. Thermosphere
4. Exosphere
Describe the characteristics of the 4 layers of atmosphere.
1. Troposphere- 6-7 Miles above lithosphere, where the weather happens.
2. Stratosphere- 50km above the earth.
3. Thermosphere- 500km above the earth, -100c- -200c
4. Exosphere- Past 500km above the earth, extremely hot.
Explain how a cloud forms.
A warmed air bubble on the earth rises due to cooler air moving in under it.
Explain how water vapor and temperature are related with regard to relative humidity.
The amount of water vapor the air is holding, compared to the total amount it could hold at a certain temperature. The warmer it is, the lower the humidity, the cooler is it, the higher the humidity.
Discribe three ways heat is transfered.
1. Conduction- touching (oven).
2. Convention- moving molecules (hair dryer).
3. Radiation- transfer through space.
What happens to air flow in a low pressure area?
The air is like a vacuum, it's moving from the high to the low. When air from all directions meet together, the air pushes straight up and can cause a tornado.
What happens to air flow in a low pressure area?
Air is moving away from it and is falling down.
Explain the Coriolis effect.
When the wind looks like it's coming at a curve because the world is spinning. Lows spin counter clockwise in, and highs spin clockwise out.
Explain 3 different fronts by symbol.
1. Cold front- blue triangles.
2. Warm front- red simi circles.
3. Stationary Front- both red simi circles and blue triangles; a front that just stops.
What's the Persistence Meathod?
Whatever is happening now will likely continue.
What is the Trend Meathod?
Whatever changes are occurring will likely continue in the same way.
What is the Movement Meathod?
Look to the west.
What is the Analogue Meathod?
If it happened before, it will likely happen again.
