Alluvial Fan

a fan-shaped mass of alluvium deposited as the flow of a river decreases in velocity.

Bar

prevent or forbid the entrance or movement of.

Base Level

The base level of a river or stream is the lowest point to which it can flow, often referred to as the 'mouth of the river'

Bed Load

The term bed load or bedload describes particles in a flowing fluid (usually water) that are transported along the bed

Braided Stream

A stream consisting of multiple small, shallow channels that divide and recombine numerous times forming a pattern resembling the strands of a braid

Capacity

the maximum amount that something can contain.

Competence

the ability to do something successfully or efficiently.

an income large enough to live on, typically unearned.

Cut Bank

A cut bank, also known as a river cliff or river-cutcliff, is the outside bank of a water channel (stream), which is continually undergoing erosion.

Cut off

an act of stopping or interrupting the supply or provision of something.

Delta

a nearly flat plain of alluvial deposit between diverging branches of the mouth of a river, often, though not necessarily, triangular: the Nile delta. 7. (usually cap.) a word used in communications to represent the letter D.

Dendritic pattern

so called because of their similarity to branching organic forms, are most common where rocks or sediments are flat-lying and preferential zones of structural weakness are minimal.

Discharge

allow (a liquid, gas, or other substance) to flow out from where it has been confined.

Dissolved load

material, especially ions from chemical weathering, that are carried in solution by a stream. The dissolved load contributes to the total amount of material removed from a catchment.

Distributary

a branch of a river that does not return to the main stream after leaving it (as in a delta).

Divide

a wide divergence between two groups, typically producing tension or hostility

Drainage basin

an extent or an area of land where surface water from rain, melting snow, or ice converges to a single point at a lower elevation, usually the exit of the basin, where the waters join another waterbody, such as a river, lake, reservoir, estuary, wetland, sea, or ocean.

Drawdown

.a reduction in the size or presence of a military force.

Gradient

an increase or decrease in the magnitude of a property (e.g., temperature, pressure, or concentration) observed in passing from one point or moment to another.

Flood

an overflowing of a large amount of water beyond its normal confines, especially over what is normally dry land.
