It decided who would control the northern and eastern parts of North America.

They were alarmed. When the British traders destroyed a village and trading post in the area the French pushed them out.

The Lieutenant Governor of Virginia sent soldiers to tell the French to leave. These soldiers were led by George Washington.

The first proposal to Unite the colonies. Each colony would send a representative to the grand council.

No - the colonial legislatures voted against it because they did not want to give up control of their own affairs.

Did the British send troops to the American colonists for the French & Indian War?

Yes, they knew the colonists couldn't be relied on to solely fund the troops. They sent General Edward Braddock.

Where did Braddock march?

Braddock, with George Washington and 2,000 troops marched towards Fort Duquesne.

What happened when Braddock marched on Fort Duquesne?

They were met with an ambush of less than 900 French troops. The British were defeated and lost 1000 troops. (Braddock refused to take Washington's suggestion that they break formation and shoot from behind trees.)

In response to the Braddock's loss at Fort Duquesne what did the British do?

Determined to win they sent their best generals and borrowed money to fund the war.

What battle happened in 1759?

The British began to attack the new French capital of Quebec. 4000 men climbed the cliffs overnight and were waiting for the French when they awoke.

Who won the Battle of Quebec?

After a short fierce battle Quebec surrendered to the British. This was a turning point in the war for the British. By the next year Montreal fell and all of Canada was in British hands.

Although the French withdrew and the British took their forts the Natives did not give up easily. The natives responded by attacking settlers and destroying forts along the Appalachians - this was known as Pontiac's Rebellion.

The responded with their own viciousness and killed even natives that were not involved in the attacks.
