Pinkish gray eardrum / Visible Malleus / Bright Cone of Light Visible / Incus visible behind the drum
Normal Eardrum
Hole in the eardrum resultant from Purulent Infections of Middle Ear / Reddened Ring of granulation tissue surrounds the perferation / May drain fluid through perferation / Usually heals and closes on its own
Perforation of the Drum
Large Chalky white patch with irregular margins seen on the Inferior portion / Depositoin of Hyaline material within the layers of the tympanic membrane sometimes following a severe case of Otitis Media / Doesn't impair hearing / Sometimes cuased by a healed Perferation and or a retracted drum
Tympanoslerosis
Caused by Viral Upper Respiratory Infections or by sudden changes in atmospheric pressure / Eustachian tube cannot equalize the air / Air is absorbed into the bloodstream / Symptoms include fullness and popping in the ear, mild conduction hearing loss, and some pain
Serous Effusion
Viral Infection (mycoplasma) characterized by painful hemorrhagic vesicles on the tympanic membrane and or ear canal / Symptoms include earache, blood tinged discharge, conductive hearing loss
Bullous Myringitis
Caused by Bacterial infection / Symptoms include earache, fever, and hearing loss , Eardrum reddens and buldges laterally / Conductive hearing loss is a factor (much more common in children)
