AILERON DISCONNECT Handle PULL
Disconnects the aileron control system. The Captain will control his/her on-side aileron, MFS panel 5L/R with artificial feel. The First Officer will control his/her on-side aileron, MFS panel 4L/R with no artificial feel. MFS panel 3L/ R is locked out for both pilots. The system cannot be reset in flight. Disconnection can be confirmed by a cyan AILERON DISC EICAS message.

Alphanumeric Buttons
Enter alphanumeric inputs. Space key (SP) is used to insert a space. A toggle plus/minus key inserts the corresponding symbol.
ALRT RST Button
Cancels a fault indication.
ALT Button
Activates or deactivates the altitude hold function.
ALT SEL Knob
Selects the desired altitude in 100' increments.
ALT SEL Knob Clockwise rotation
Increases the altitude target.
ALT SEL Knob Counter clockwise rotation
Decreases the altitude target.
Alternate Gear Extension Lever (Two Position)
When pulled releases all hydraulic fluid from the landing gear lines and releases all landing gear uplocks.
Alternate Gear Extension Lever Unlock Pushbutton
When pressed releases the handle from the fully actuated position.
Amber LED next to DISC position on IDG Knob
Indicates which IDG to disconnect. Will illuminate in association with the IDG1(2) OIL caution EICAS, and will extinguish after the IDG is disconnected
An engine bleed leak
Will cause the illumination of an amber striped bar in the upper half of the associated engine bleed button.
ANNUNCIATORS TEST Button
The striped bars and caption indications in all main panel, overhead panel, and control pediestal pushbuttons illuminate when pressed, allowing verification of lamp integrity. The EMRG/PRKG BRAKE light, Master Warning and Master Caution, and GPU pushbutton light and fire test light are not illuminated.
AP Button
Commands autopilot engagement or disengagement.
AP/TRIM DISCONNECT BUTTON (Momentary Action)
Primary means to disengage the autopilot and cancel the autopilot disconnect alert. Disables both HS-ACE channels as long as the button remains pressed.
APP Button
Activates or deactivates the approach mode of the AFCS to intercept an ILS or BC. For an ILS, the Autopilot Approach
APU (Guarded)
Momentary action pushbutton. Closes the APU fuel shutoff valve and discharges the APU fire extinguisher bottle. The light will illuminate when the APU EMER STOP button has been pushed in when an APU fire has been detected, or 60 seconds after an APU fire has been detected and no pilot action has occurred. If no fire is detected, one push will arm and discharge the fire bottle.
APU BLEED Button PUSH IN
Allows the AMS to automatically configure the position of the APU bleed valve.
APU BLEED Button PUSH OUT
Manually closes the APU bleed valve.
APU bleed leak
An APU bleed leak will cause the illumination of
an amber striped bar in the upper half of the APU BLEED
button.
APU GEN Button: IN
The position allows the APU generator to connect to the AC BUS TIE, automatically according to the source priority
APU GEN Button: OUT
Opens the APU generator contactor and isolates the APU generator from the AC BUS TIE. The APU generator is tripped off line and de-excited.
APU Shutdown Process
The process involves a one minute cool down. During the cool down APU pneumatics are removed as soon as the MASTER rotary knob is positioned to OFF. If the APU generator is the only source of AC power during the cool down, then APU electrical power will still be available during the one minute cool down period. If there is any other source of AC power on the aircraft when the MASTER rotary knob is moved to OFF, then APU electrical power is removed right away. During any portion of the one minute cool down, the MASTER rotary knob can be moved from OFF back to ON and the APU will continue running.
AT Button (GROUND)
Arms the autothrottle system.
AT BUTTON (IN FLIGHT)
Engages or disengages the autothrottle system.
AT DISC Buttons
Disconnects the autothrottles and cancels the autothrottle aural alert.
ATTND CALL Button
Pressing the button sounds a chime in the passenger cabin and illuminates a green light on the FA rainbows
AUD Button (13X)
Related channel is available for reception. When selected a green light will illuminate in the button. Multiple channels may be selected for reception. When an AUD channel is selected the LCD will display the selected channel to allow volume adjustment. After 10 seconds the LCD display will revert to the selected MIC channel. To deselect an AUD channel press the associated AUD twice in succession.

Autopilot disconnect warning
Multiple pushes of the AP button will not cancel the autopilot disconnect warning. The autopilot disconnect warning can only be cancelled by pushing the yoke AP/TRIM DISC button.

Enables cabin crew interphone communications via the hotmic.
CABN Button CABIN TO COCKPIT
When the In-flight crewmember presses the PILOT button on the flight attendant panel a single chime will be heard in the cockpit and the CABN button green light will flash quickly. When the pilot presses the CABN button the green light will illuminate steady green.
CABN Button COCKPIT TO CABIN
Sounds a single chime in the cabin and illuminates the steady green light on the flight attendant rainbow lights panel. The ACP LCD will read CABN CALL. The green light in the CABN button will flash slowly. When the In-flight crewmember lifts the cabin handset and selects PILOT, a single chime will sound in the cockpit and the green light in the CABN button will flash quickly. Pressing the CABN button again will connect the cockpit and cabin and the green light will illuminate steady.
CAGE Button
Resets attitude to zero, eliminating accumulated drift when the button is pressed for more than two seconds. Not operational during the initialization mode and must be used with wings leveled on stabilized flight conditions. When pressed, an amber CAGE flag is displayed on the upper right corner of the IESS.
Cargo smoke detected IN FLIGHT
A single button push will discharge the HIGH rate bottle. 60 seconds later the LOW rate bottle will discharge automattically.
Cargo smoke detected ON GROUND
A single button push will discharge the HIGH rate bottle. Automatic discharge of the LOW rate bottle is inhibited on the ground. However, a second button push will discharge the LOW rate bottle.
CARGO SMOKE FWD and AFT Buttons
Momentary action pushbutton. Illuminates when the high rate bottle is armed.
Cargo smoke not detected IN FLIGHT
A single button push will arm the HIGH rate bottle. A second button push will discharge the HIGH rate bottle. 60 seconds later the LOW rate bottle will discharge.
Cargo smoke not detected ON GROUND
A single button push will arm the HIGH rate bottle. A second push will discharge the HIGH rate bottle. A third button push will discharge the LOW rate bottle.
CHR Button
Starts/stops the chronometer.
CHRONO
It has three functions; START-STOP-RESET. The timer appears on the upper right corner of the PFD HSI.
CKPT Temperature Control Knob
Controls cockpit temperature according to the knob position.
Clock/Chronometer Display
Displays chronometer, time/date and elapsed time. If no GPS signal is detected, the clock will display dashes and only the positions INT and SET on the GPS/INT/SET selector will be available. The chronometer display is blanked in the non-operating mode.
CLR
Clears alphanumeric entries or messages in the scratchpad.
COCKPIT DOOR CONTROL INHIB Pushbutton (MOMENTARY ACTION)
Pushing this button will lock the door for 500 seconds if emergency access is requested. When pushed a white bar will illuminate in the button. If emergency access is requested and INHIB is not selected within 30 seconds the door will unlock.
COCKPIT DOOR CONTROL LOCK Pushbutton (GUARDED)
Locks and unlocks the door. A white bar in the switch illuminates when unlock is selected (push in). Deactivates the inhibition control. Resets the buzzer alarm and EMERG CALL command. Resets the green LED on the flight attendant access panel.

Allows CVR data to be erased when the aircraft is on the ground with the parking break set
DATE/SET Button
Allows time setting when the GPS/INT/SET selector is in the SET position. Repeated pressing of the SET button causes the selector to cycle between minute, hour, year, month, and day. The desired digits flash and the setting is obtained by rotating the DATE/SET button. Allows the date to be displayed on the associated indicator when the GPS/INT/SET selector is set to GPS or INT.
DC BSU TIES Toggle Switch: AUTO
This postion allows automatic operation of the DC TIE contactors (1 DCTC/2ETCs) according to system logic

DUMP Button (Guarded)
When pushed in a white striped bar will illuminate in thebutton. With the pressurization mode in MAN or AUTO pushing this button in will turn off both sets of air conditioning packs and recirculation fans. Additionally, in AUTO only, the outflow valve will modulate to raise the cabin to 12400' at 2000' fpm. Once the cabin has been dumped to 12400' natural leak will raise the cabin higher. If a cabin dump has been commenced, it can be cancelled by reselecting the button to its normal (out) position. NOTE: Selecting the DUMP button in while in MAN mode will stil command the PACK's and RECIRC FAN's to shutdown.
DVDR TEST
Commands a self test of DVDR 1 and DVDR 2. A failure message is indicated by a CVR AFT (FWD) FAIL advisory message ont he EICAS

Full EICAS information is presented and auto declutter is inhibited. A white striped bar illuminates in the button.
EICAS FULL Button PUSH OUT
Enables the automatic EICAS de-clutter logic.
ELAPSED TIME SELECTOR AUTO
(Spring loaded neutral) Automatically starts the chronometer on liftoff.

Resets the elapsed time if WOW is present.
Electrical Override Switch GEAR DOWN
Bypasses the landing gear lever and extends

The landing gear lever performs landing gear extension and retraction.
ELEVATOR DISCONNECT Handle PULL
Disconnects the elevator control system. Each pilot will control their on-side elevator. The system cannot be reset in flight. Disconnection can be confirmed by a cyan ELEVATOR DISC EICAS message.
EMER Button
Interphone communication with the cabin is enabled over the hot-mic.
EMER Button CABIN TO COCKPIT
When the In-flight crewmember presses the EMER call button from the flight attendant panel, a triple HI/LO chime is sounded in the cockpit. The green light in the EMER button will be flashing quickly. When the pilot pushes the EMER button the green light will be solid green indicating that a connection has been made.
EMER Button COCKPIT TO CABIN
Initiates a triple HI/LO chime in the cabin and illuminates the flashing red light on the flight attendant rainbow lights panel. EMER CALL will be seen in the LCD on the ACP. When pushed the green light inside the button flashes slowly. When the In-flight Crewmember picks up the cabin handset and selects EMER PILOT the green light will flash quickly and a single chime will be heard in the cockpit. The cockpit crew must push the EMER button again to establish communication. The light in the EMER button will now be solid green. When the In-flight crewmember hangs up the handset the connection will be broken.
EMER LT Selector Knob: ARMED
Automatically illuminates all emergency lights if DC BUS 1 loses power or if the airplane electrical power is turned off
EMER LT Selector Knob: OFF
Disables automatic operation of the emergency lights, The lights can still be turned on from the FWD or AFT ATTENDANT panel
EMER LT Selector Knob: ON
Turns on all emergency lights regarless of the postion of the EMERGENCY LIGHT switch on the FWD and AFT ATTENDANT panel
EMER STOP Button In case of fire
The upper half of the button illuminates red. When pushed in, a white striped bar illuminates on the lower half of the button.
EMER STOP Button PUSH IN
Closes the APU fuel shutoff valve, shutting down the APU without a one minute cool down. Selection of this button will illuminate a white stripe in the lower half of the APU EMER STOP button.
EMER STOP Button PUSH OUT
Normal position, with the fuel shut off valve open.
EMERG/PRKGBRAKE Light
The word "ON" illuminates when the EMERG/PRKGBRAKE is actuated. Illumination of the light indicates that sufficient hydraulic pressure is available to maintain brake pressure.
EMERG/PRKNG BRAKE Handle
Actuates the emergency/parking brake. The handle will lock when pulled up to the fully actuated position. To release the handle from the fully actuated position, the button must be pressed.
Engaging the autopilot when no FD mode is active
Causes FPA mode to become the active vertical mode, and the FD guidance cue to come into view.
Engine and wing anti-ice system
On the Ground
The MCDU T/O DATASET MENU must be set to REF A/I ALL when the OAT is 10 degrees C or less and:

1. Icing conditions exist, or
2. The ceiling is less than 1,700 feet
ENGINE ICE PROTECTION Button Ground
Engine anti-ice is selected ON from the MCDU, TRS INDEX, TO DATA SET MENU, REF A/I LSK.

Operation is automatic through the AMS.
ENGINE ICE PROTECTION Button PUSH IN
Allows automatic operation of the associated engine anti-ice system.
ENGINE ICE PROTECTION Button PUSH OUT
Deactivates the associated engine anti-ice system.
Engine shutdown
Following high thrust operation such as maximum reverse thrust during landing, the engine will be operated at or near idle for two (2) minutes before shutdown to thermally stabilize the engines hot section. Taxi time at or near idle can be included in this period.
Engine warm-up
After the engine has been started, operate at or near idle for at least two (2) minutes before selecting high thrust. Taxi time at or near idle can be included in the warm-up period
Enter Keys
Used to select soft keys or menu options.
FAULT Button
Illuminates when senses no paper or printer door open. Illuminates in conjunction with test button in case of self-test failure.
FD Button
Removes the FD cue from the associated PFD when the AP is not engaged, but does not turn off the FD system. If theAP is engaged the FD cue cannot be removed from the PFD that is on the same side as the AFCS source.
Fire Detection System TEST Button
Momentary action button. Tests the engine and APU fire detection systems, and the forward and aft cargo compartment smoke detection systems. Prior to performing a FIRE TEST confirm that there are no FIRE DET FAIL, FIREX FAIL, FIREX ARM, or BTL DISCH messages on the EICAS.
Flap Override Switch (GUARDED)
Inhibits triggering of flap alerts in case of landings where flap configuration is other than 5 or FULL.

The thrust levers will modulate somewhere between TOGA and IDLE. The TRS mode for all climbs and descents will be CLB. In FLCH pitch is commanded to maintain airspeed.
FLCH Button If the AT system is engaged
A climb will be made with the thrust levers at TOGA and descents will be made with the thrust levers at IDLE.
FLIGHT CONTROLS MODE Buttons (GUARDED) PUSH IN
Selects DIRECT MODE for the associated flight control. A white bar will illuminate in the push button. NOTE: In DIRECT Mode high level functions are lost.
FLIGHT CONTROLS MODE Buttons (GUARDED) PUSH OUT
Returns the associated flight control to NORMAL MODE.
FMS Button
Selects FMS as the navigation source, and displays a magenta needle on the PFD HSI. The FMS source can be toggled between on side and cross side navigation information.
Format location buttons
Places the cursor on the associated display.
FPA Button

FPA SEL Knob
Manually selects the desired Flight Path Angle if FPA is the active vertical mode. If FPA is not the active mode and FPR is selected on the Display Control Panel, this knob adjusts the position of the flight path reference line.
FPR Button
Selects or deselects the display of a cyan flight path reference line on the PFD. The FPA SEL knob can be rotated to change the value of this line +/- 9.9 degrees.

The altitude to be held synchronizes to the altitude existing at the moment of button release, but the selected altitude readout does not change.

They will sync to the Captains (#1) controller.
If FLCH or GS was the active vertical mode
control returns to that mode.
If VS or FPA were the active vertical modes
The selected VS or FPA synchronizes to the VS or FPA existing at the moment of button release.
IFE RACK Button (GUARDED)
Controls power to the LiveTV System, the CSS, XM Satellite Radio system, and Wireless Aircraft Data Link (WADL). Controls power to the PA buffer, rack fan, and flow switch. Power to smoke detection and ventilation systems is not turned off by pressing this switch. A striped bar illuminates in the button when selected off.
IGNITION Selector Knob AUTO
FADEC automatically controls the ignition system, depending on engine requirements.
IGNITION Selector Knob OFF
Deactivates the ignition system on the ground. When dry motoring on the ground there is no fuel flow. The FADEC disregards the OFF position in flight.
IGNITION Selector Knob OVRD
Directs FADEC to continuously activate both igniters.
ILS Button
Selects or deselects the display of ILS 1 LOC and GS deviation indications on the IESS. ILS 1 will be annunciated in the upper left corner of the IESS. In case of a failure, a red cross replaces the annunciation.

NOTE: In flight or on ground, with no smoke detected, if either cargo smoke fire extinguisher button is pushed inadvertently, push the test button to cancel or wait two minutes for the system to reset automatically.

Pressing the button will inhibit the landing gear warning in the event of a dual radio altimeter failure. When pressed a white striped bar will illuminate inside the button. The light will extinguish allowing a new warning when the thrust levers are advanced. NOTE: If FLAP 5 or FULL is selected with the gear up the warning cannot be cancelled.
Line Select Keys (LSK)
Data is selected to a line from the scratchpad or vice-versa. On the radio pages only, if a single white triangle is displayed, a sub-menu will be available to view when the LSK is pushed twice. The first push will bring the cursor box to the LSK selected, and the second push will open the submenu.

Displays the selected audio channel and digital volume information.

MIC Button (6X)

PREV
Selects the previous page.
PREV Button
Selects or deselects the display of lateral and vertical deviation information from the tuned VOR/ILS/LOC frequency while FMS is the active navigation source. A blue needle depicts the PREV information. Toggling the PREV button alternates the display of on side or cross side navigation information. For a LOC/BC or ILS, if APPR mode is armed, the previewed navigation source will become the primary navigation source when captured. The PREV needle will not change to amber when cross side information is displayed.
Printer OFF Button
Turns the printer off and on.
PTU SWITCH AUTO
During takeoff or landing with the flaps not at zero, the PTU will activate with a failure of ENG 2 or the ENG 2 Engine Driven Pump (EDP) to provide normal landing gear extension and retraction.

Turns the PTU off.

The PTU operates continuously.
PUSH IAS-MACH
Toggles the speed selected on the PFD between IAS and MACH.

Scratchpad
The working area, located on the bottom line of the display. The pilot can enter data and/or verify data before line selecting the data into its proper position. Data is retained on the scratchpad throughout all mode and page changes. The scratchpad also provides advisory and alerting messages.
SELCAL Button
When a SELCAL is received the button will flash green, a single chime will be heard, an EICAS message will post, SELCAL will post in the ACP LCD, and the MIC and AUD button of the called channel will flash green. Holding down the SELCAL pushbutton will display the SELCAL code that has been programmed for the aircraft. The button will illuminate steady green when active for transmission.

Manually selects the desired airspeed. Manual speeds are displayed in cyan on the PFD.
SPEED Selector Knob (OUTER) FMS
The desired speed is controlled by the FMS. Changes can be entered through the MCDU. FMS speed is displayed in magenta on the PFD.

The desired speed is controlled manually, displayed in cyan on the PFD.
Speedbrake Lever
In flight, symmetrically deploys the multi-function spoilers in proportion to the speedbrake lever position. The speedbrakes will automatically retract when the thrust lever angle exceeds 60 degrees, greater than FLAP 1 is selected, or the speed drops below 180 KIAS.
SPKR Button
Allows audio to be heard over the speaker. Ensure this button illuminates as a part of the oxygen test. When selected the button illuminates.
SRC Button
Selects the Captain or First Officer AFCS side as data source. A green arrowhead on the FMA indicates the selected side.

Thrust Reverser Trigger
Pulling the thrust reverser trigger allows movement of the thrust levers aft of the IDLE stop (on the ground only).
Tiller
The handle must be pushed down to engage tiller steering. Turn the aircraft by rotating the handle left or right. With the handle released, nose wheel steering is accomplished through the rudder pedals.
To prevent trim runaway situations

Outer and inner knobs select value or mode in the data field enclosed by the cursor.

Rotating this knob selects frequencies or certain other numeric values.

UNLOCKED Indicator
Illuminates ON when the door is unlocked. When access is requested an intermittent chime will sound in the cockpit and the ON light will flash on and off.
V/L Button
Selects VOR or LOC as the navigation source, and displays a green needle on the PFD HSI. The needle can be toggled between on side and cross side navigation information. Green represents on side navigation information, and amber represents cross side navigation information.
VNAV Button
Activates or deactivates vertical navigation. VNAV vertical modes will appear magenta in the FMA.
VOL Knob
Allows volume adjustment of any selected audio channel.
VS Button
Activates or deactivates the VS mode.
VS Thumb Wheel
The thumb wheel selector manually selects the desired vertical speed if VS is the active vertical mode.
When does automatic declutter occur
Automatic de-clutter of the EICAS occurs 30 seconds after gear and flap/slat retraction if all parameters are displaying normal indications.
When the engine and APU bleed are available simultaneously
The AMS gives priority to APU to supply bleed requirements when the following conditions are simultaneously met: the airplane is on the ground, the opposite engine bleed pressure is below the minimum for engine start, the ground speed is below 50 kts., and the cross bleed valve is operating normally.
When the FD cue is selected OFF by pressing the FD button
The AFCS remains in its last selected lateral, vertical, and autothrottle mode. To select the FD OFF, deselect the current autopilot vertical mode in use. This will revert the autopilot vertical mode to FPA. Next deselect FPA to turn off the FD.
Wind shield in flight
With only one source of AC power, power to the F/O's windshield is shed. In the event the Captain's windshield is inoperative, power will be supplied to the F/O's windshield.
WINDSHIELD HEATING BUTTON 1 and 2 PUSH IN
Allows automatic operation of the associated windshield heating system.
WINDSHIELD HEATING BUTTON 1 and 2 PUSH OUT
Deactivates the associated windshield heating system.
Windshield on the ground
The windshields will be heated for approximately two minutes during the PBIT. After the PBIT is complete the windshield heaters will operate normally only with two sources of AC power (excluding GPU).
WING ICE PROTECTION Button Ground
Wing anti ice is selected ON from the MCDU, TRS INDEX, TO DATA SET MENU, REF A/I LSK.
WING ICE PROTECTION Button In-flight
Operation is automatic through the AMS.
WING ICE PROTECTION Button PUSH IN
Allows automatic operation of the wing anti-ice system.
WING ICE PROTECTION Button PUSH OUT
Deactivates the wing anti-ice system.
WX Button
When the HSI button has been toggled to display arc with map on the PFD, the WX button turns ON/OFF the display of WX RADAR information on the PFD map. WX RADAR information can only be displayed on the PFD map when magenta needles are selected.
XBLEED Button PUSH IN
Allows the AMS to control automatic operation of the cross bleed valve.
XBLEED Button PUSH OUT
Manually closes the cross bleed valve.
XFEED Selector Knob: Low 2
Opens the crossfedd valve and activates AC PUMP 1 to supply fuel to both engines from the left wing tank
XFEED Selector Knob: OFF
Closes the crossfeed valve
YAW Trim Switch
Actuates the yaw trim to left or right.
YD Button
Engages or disengages the Yaw Damper/Turn Coordination function.
