What does a Compressor do? |
Compresses the space between a sounds lowest dynamic range and its highest dynamic range |
What are the main controls on a Compressor? |
Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Make-Up, Output |
What does each of the main controls affect? |
Threshold: The maximum and minimum that the sound has to be before it is compressed Ratio: How much of this compression is applied to the sound Attack: How quickly the compression affects the sound Make-Up: Allows the sound of compression to be boosted Output: Gives control to how much of compression is boosted |
What does a Noise Gate do? |
Controls the volume output of a sound, allows you to cut sounds that you don't like |
Why is a Compressor useful? |
Reduces clipping and gives a punchier sound |
What controls does a Noise Gate have? |
Threshold, Release, Attack, Hold, Range |
What type of tracks usually feature Noise Gates? |
Vocal tracks, drum tracks, guitar tracks, any track that is recorded with a microphone and can pickup unwanted sound |
Why are Dynamic Processors called Dynamic Processors? |
Because they process sound dynamics, meaning volume |
Why is a Noise Gate very useful? |
Can reduce and get rid of unnecessary background noise on recordings |
What is a Limiter? |
Similar to a compressor as it reduces dynamic range |
