Plate
One of the rigid sections of the lithosphere that moves in many directions.
Lithosphere
The rigid outer layer of Earth, including the crust and upper crust.
Convergent Plate Boundary
A boundary in which two plates move together, causing one of the slabs of lithosphere to be consumed into the mantle as it descends beneath on overriding plate.
Divergent Plate Boundary
A region where the rigid plates are moving apart, usually in mid-oceanic ridges.
Rift Zone
A region of Earth's crust where divergence is taking place.
