DESCRIPTION
The holligan tool is described in the QFRS as |
A forceable entry tool, approximately 750mm in length.
Consists of a metal cutting edge pointed pike and adze. |
|
USE
The Hooligan tool is used in the QFRS |
To gain forced entry into a building by prising or forcing open locks on doors and windows.
It may also be used - to provide access for the tips of hydraulic spreaders - removing padlocks -cutting light sheet metal. It is also used in conjuction with a sledge hammer |
|
CONSTRUCTION
The Hooligan Tool consists of three main parts |
-A shaft
- metal cutting claw - adze blade and pike combination |
|
STARTING WITH THE ADZE BLADE AND PIKE COMBINATION
|
- Manufactured from forged high grade alloy steel with a chrome finish
- Is press fitted and pinned to one end of the shaft - pike is 170mm long, gently curved and tapered to a sharp point - the adze blade is 170mm long ending with a 50mm wide sharp blade |
|
NEXT IS THE SHAFT
|
- Is made from tempered steel with a chrome finish
- 25mm in diameter - has a tool press-fitted and pinned to each end - is contoured to reduce slipping |
|
FINALLY THE METAL CUTTING CLAW
|
- manufactured from forged high grade alloy steel with a chrome finish
- press fitted and pinned to one end of the shaft - two armed claw with one arm shaped as a cutting edge - 180mm in length |
|
OPERATION
To bring this piece of equipment into operation in the QFRS depends on the type of incident. |
There are many uses for the hooligan tool some of our most common include
- prising open a door - providing access for hydraulic spreader tips (levering action) - forcing padlocks (insert into the staple/rotate) - cutting thin sheet metal |
|
SAFETY
|
- Never swing the Hooligan tool like an axe
- Always wear safety glasses, helmet and gloves when using this piece of equipment - because of the steel construction of the hooligan tool, operators are to be careful if electrical wiring is in the vicinity. - when not in use place the adze blade and pike in the downward position for safety |
|
TESTING
Of the hooligan involves the visual test. |
- When being taken into service
- after use at an incident - monthly Ensure that the hooligan tool is - clean - the pike point, adze blade and the metal cutting claw are sharp |
