Lisinopril trade therapeutic classification

Antihypertensivesli

Lisinopril pharmacologic classification

ACE inhibitors

Lisinopril action

ACE inhibitors block conversion of angiotensin 1 into vasoconstricting angiotensin 2. Ace inhibitors also prevent dregadation of bradykinin and other vasodilatatory prostaglandin. Increases plasma renin level and decreases aldosterone levels

Lisinopril adverse reactions

Cough, hypotension, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, insomnia, constipation, diarrhea, hypokalemia

Propranalol trade names

Hemangeol, Inderal LA, Inno Pran XL

Propranolol therapeutic classification

Antianginal, antiarrhythmics (class 2), antihypertensives, vascular headache suppressants

Propranolol pharmacologic classification

Beta blockers

Propranolol action

Blocks stimulation of beta1 (myocardial) and beta2 (pulmonary, vascular, and uterine), adrenergic receptor sites, mechanism for treatment of infantile hemangiomas

furosemide trade names

lasix

furosemide therapeutic classification

diuretics

furosemide pharmacologic classification

loop diuretics

furosemide action

inhibits reabsorption of sodium and chloride from the loop of Henle and distal renal tubule, increases renal excretion of water, sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, and calcium. effectiveness persists in impaired renal function

furosemide contraindictions

cross-sensitivity with thiazides and sulfonamides

furosemide adverse effects (common)

dehydration, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, hypovolemia, hypotension, dry mouth, increased liver enzymes

warfarin trade names

coumadin, Jantoven

warfarin therapeutic classification

anticoagulants

warfarin pharmacologic classification

coumarins

warfarin action

interferes with hepatic synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors

warfarin contraindictions

uncontrolled bleeding, open wounds, active ulcer disease, recent brain/eye/spinal cord injury, severe liver or kidney disease, uncontrolled hypertension

warfarinlife threatening reactions

calciphylaxis, bleeding

digoxin trade name

Lanoxin

digoxin therapeutic classification

antiarrythmics

digoxin pharmacologic classification

digitalis glycosides

digoxin action

increases force of myocardial contraction. prolongs refractory period of AV node, decreases conduction through SA and AV nodes

digoxin contraindictions

uncontrolled ventricular arrhythmia, AV block, idiopathic hypertrophy subaortic stenosis, constrictive pericarditis, known alcohol intolerance

nitroglycerin therapeutic classification

antianginals

nitroglycerin pharmacologic classification

nitrates

nitroglycerin action

increases coronary blood flow by dilating coronary arteries and improving collateral flow to ischemic regions. produces vasodilation.
