Show me how you would check the PARKING BRAKE (HANDBREAK) for excexsive wear.
Make sure that the car is in neutral and handbrake on. I'm making sure that the footbrake is on. Demonstrate that when it is fully applied then it is secure but it does not come up too high - it is not at the end of its working travel.
Show me how you would check that the POWER ASSISTED STEERING is working correctly.
Make sure the car is in neutral and the handbreak applied. Pull down slighty on wheel using two fingers of left hand. Whilst this pressure is maintained, switch on engine and if working correctly when the wheel should show slight movement as the system starts.
Tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have SUFFICIENT TREAD DEPTH and that their GENERAL CONDITION is safe to use on the road.
Should have no cuts or bulges in the tyre wall. Should not appear flat or underinflated.

There should be a tread depth of 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the breadth of the tyre and around its entire circumfrance.

Check using a tread depth gauge.
Tell me how you would check that the BRAKES are working.
Brakes should be tested as you set off and they should not feel spongy or slack You should be able to stop smoothly and in a straight line and brakes should not pull to a side.
Tell me where you would find the information for the recommended TYRE PRESSURES for the car and how tyre pressure should be checked.
Should refer to the information mannual for the car.

Tyre pressure should be checked using a reliable pressure gauge. All tyres should be checked, including the spare tyre. This should be done when tyres are cold.
Tell me how you would check that the brake lights are working.
I would apply the footbrake and ask a passanger to get out and check them. Or I would look at the reflection of my car, such as in a shop mirror.
