Playwright

The playwright is the composer (writer) of the play script

Rehearsal

The continued practice of play, to improve its performance and enhance its effectiveness

Soliloquy

The actor speaks directly to the audience, voicing aloud their thoughts and feelings

Gesture

The physical movement of actors, which shows how they feel, think, react to situations

Backdrop

The (often painted) back wall which conveys setting/location of the play

Positioning

where the actors stand/move around the around the stage; for example 'stage left'

Monologue

A single performer (they sometimes speak directly to the audience)

Director

The person who controls the vision and the interpretation of the play, directing the actors and overseeing set designs etc
