What are the drivers duties should a train be disabled and communication is available or not available?

The driver will fill in and dictate a drivers relief authority DRA to the train controller-including the exact location by kilometre post, weight and length of the train and number of DMU carriages if applicable.


The driver will ensure the train is protected:


- securing the train


- carry out cab unattended procedure


- take a form of off train communication


- take a red hand signal


- protect the train in the direction the relief train will arrive


- display a red hand signal


- take DRA


- contact the train controller and advise the train is protected

- proceed 500 m or to the first fixed signal at STOP to the rear and protect the train by displaying a red stop hand signal

What is the procedure for rendering assistance to a disabled train?

The train controller will dictate a train authority to the signaller at the station from where the relief train will enter the section.


The train authority must state which end of the section the disabled train will be removed.


The driver of the relief train must sign on the butt of the form.


In addition to receiving the train authority the applicable fixed signal must be placed to PROCEED if it can.

What is the procedure for clearing a disabled train from the section when the relief train enters from the station in the rear or advance?

Rear


The driver of the relief train must:


- obtain the train authority from the signaller and sign on the butt of the form


- pass fixed signals at PROCEED and STOP at fixed signal held at stop by the disabled train or to a distance of 2 km from the disabled train


- at the 2km mark, stop the train and endorse the datalogger by pressing the VC twice


- proceed max 15 km/h


- pick up the driver max speed 15 km/h


- confer with the driver to couple the trains together and perform a continuity test


- obtain the DRA from the driver of the disabled train and CANCEL it


When the combined trains are ready to be moved contact the train controller for permission.
