SYNCOPE
PRE-SYNCOPE
Signs: pallor, diaphoresis Symptom: hot, dizzy, nauseated SYNCOPE Signs: death-like appearance, shallow gasping breaths, dilated pupils, possible convulsive movements TX: Place Pt in supine, maintain open airway, use ammonia capsule, give oxygen, take vitals, determine success. Call EMS if Pt doesn't recover within 15-20 min. |
HYPERVENTILATION
Cardiovascular symptoms: tacycardia, chest pain
Neurological symptoms: dizziness, lightheadedness, tingling in mouth or extremities Signs: can't breath, diaphoresis TX: Remove cause, position the Pt most comfortable, count to 10 in 1 breath with pursed lips, take vitals Slow down respirations to correct alkalosis |
HYPOGLYCEMIA
Symptoms: weakness, dizziness headache, confusion
Signs: pale, moist skin TX: EVALUATE LEVEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS TX: (conscious) semi-upright, maintain open airway, take & record vitals, give oral carb or 20g oral glucose Signs Pt is recovering: more alert Signs Pt is deteriorating: unstable vitals, loss of consciousness TX: (unconscious) Place Pt in supine, call 911, ABC's of CPR, take vitals, have Doc give 20 ml. 50% dextrose or glucagon |
OXYGEN ADMINISTRATION:
E CYLINDER/RESUSCITATOR & BAG-VALVEMASK |
TX:(E cylinder)
Check for responsiveness, place Pt in supine, open airway, determine if breathing (L.L.F.), clear visible debris, place mask with E-C Clamp How to determine success: condensation TX:(Bag) Place Pt in supine & open airway, determine if breathing (L.L.F.), remove visible debris, place mask (E-C clamp), compress bag 1 full sec. How to determine success: rise & fall of chest, condensation, feel breath Compare systems: Tank/Resc ↑21% Bag valve mask 21% |
Airway Obstruction
Signs(partial): wheezing, coughing
Signs(complete): can't talk, cyanosis VISIBLE OBJECT: trandelangburg, forceps or suction PARTIAL OBSTRUCTED: place Pt where comfortable and let cough COMPLETE OBSTRUCTED: position the Pt upright, heimlich ASPIRATION: Signs: wheezing, cyanosis Evaluate consciousness, supine if unconscious, activate ABC's, call EMS |
ANGINA
Symptoms: ↑pulse rate, cold clammy skin, chest tightness
Signs: pallor Signs(STABLE): gradual pain, last 1-15 min.,relieved by nitro & rest Signs( UNSTABLE): pain more than 15 min., more nitro needed Tx: remain calm, stop dental Tx, place Pt where comfortable, help Pt take nitro (2 sprays under tongue within 1-2 mins. or 1 pill every 5 mins.), give oxygen, give more nitro. if needed (max 3 within 15 mins.) Success: vital signs stable and pain stops. CALL EMS: pain doesn't go away or no history of angina |
MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION
Symptoms: sudden onset of pain, dizziness, weakness, nausea
Signs: levin sign, sweating, shortness of breath Tx: remain calm, stop Tx, call EMS & give nitro., keep Pt quiet & calm, position upright, give oxygen, ABS'c of CPR take & record vitals |
VITAL SIGNS
PALSE: ( rate, rhythm, quality)
60-100/ 70-130 BP: systolic/diastolic 120/80 normal ↑159/59 no Tx Respirations: ( rate, rhythm, quality, depth) 12-20/16-22 Temp: 97-99.6 (98.6) 96↓ or 103↑ no Tx |
tacycardia, chest pain, dizziness, lightheadedness, tingling in mouth or extremities, can't breath, diaphoresis
Hyperventilation
Tx: remove cause, place Pt in comfortable position, have Pt count to 10 in one breath with pursed lips, take vitals (alkalosis is corrected by slowing down respirations) |
weakness, dizziness, headache, confusion, pale moist skin
Hypoglycemia
Tx:(conscious) place Pt semi-upright, maintain open airway, take & record vitals, give oral carb or 20g oral glucose signs Pt is recovering: more alert signs Pt is deteriorating: unstable vitals or loss of consciousness Tx:(unconscious) place Pt in supine, call 911, activate ABC's, take vitals, have Doc give 20ml. 50% dextrose or glucagon |
↑pulse rate, cold clammy skin, chest tightness, pallor
gradual pain lasting 1-15 min.? pain lasting more than 15 min. needing more nitro? (stable or unstable?) |
Angina
Tx: remain calm, stop dental Tx., place Pt where comfortable, help Pt take nitro, give oxygen, give more nitro if needed. call EMS if pain does not stop or no history of angina. (success=vital signs stable & pain stops) |
sudden onset of pain, dizziness, weakness, nausea, levin sign, sweating, shortness of breath
MI
Tx:remain calm, stop Tx, call EMS, position Pt upright, give Pt nitro, administer oxygen, Be ready to activate ABC's, take & record vitals |
wheezing, coughing
Partial Obstruction
Tx: place Pt in comfortable position & let cough |
can't talk, cyanosis
Complete Obstruction
Tx: position Pt in upright position, do heimlich If Pt goes unconscious: call EMS, place Pt in supine & activate ABC's of CPR |
