The usual dose of nitroglycerin for treatment of angina pectoris is 1 tablet at the first sign of chest pain, may repeat 1 tablet every 5 minutes until relief is obtained. The patient should go to the emergency room if relief has not been obtained after 3 tablets. Nitroglycerin may be used prophylactically 5 to 10 minutes prior to activities that might precipitate an angina attack.
