2. Recurrent substance use in situations in which it is physically hazardous i.e. driving


3. recurrent substance-related legal problems i.e. Driving while intoxicated or disorderly conduct


4. continued use of substance despite social/interpersonal problems i.e. arguing with significant other and or


5. Not been diagnosed with Substance Dependence for this substance

Schizophrenic Disorder



Schizophrenia

Characterized by the presence of two or more of the following for at least 6 months


1. delusions


2. hallucinations


3. disorganized speech


4. grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior and or


5. negative symptoms and the presence of such symptoms caused a disturbance in social or occupational functioning

Shizophreneiform Disorders

Similar to schizophrenia except that the total duration of the illness is a t least 1 month but less than 6 months and impairment in social or occupational functioning is not required




Schizoaffective Disorder

Characterized by an uninterrupted period of illness during which time there is a Major Depressive, Manic or Mixed Episodes along with delusions or hallucinations for at least 2 weeks

Manic Episode


Characterized by a period of abnormal elated, expansive or irritable mood for a period of at least1 week where eth person experiences three or more of the following

Hypomanic Episode

Characterized by a distinct period during which there is an abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive or irritable mood that lasts at least 4 days and is clearly different from that of depressed mood. During such period of time the person experiences 3 or more of the following


1. inflated self esteem or grandiosity


2. decreased need for sleep[


3 talkativeness


4 flight of ideas


5. distractibility


6 increase in goal oriented behavior


7. excessive involvement in pleasurable activities

Depressive Disorders



Major Depressive Disorder

Characterized by the presence of one or more Major Depressive Episodes as detailed above without history of Manic, Mixed or Hypomanic Episode



When there are two or more Major Depressive Episodes with an interval or at lease 2 months, the individual should be diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder Recurrent



Dysthymic Disorder

Characterized by a depressed mood that occurs for most of the day and for more day than not in conjunction with 2 or more of the following for at lease two years


1 poor appetite


2 insomnia or hypersomnia


3 low energy


4 low self esteem


5 poor concentration and or


6 feeling of hopelessness


BIPOLAR DISORDERS



Bipolar I Disorder

Characterized by one or more Manic Episodes or Mixed Episodes as described above



1. if the full criteria are met specify Mild, Moderate, Severe with out psychotic feature/severe with psychotic features, Catatnic feature or With postpartum onset


2. If the full criteria are not met specify in Partial Remission, in Full remission with Catatonic features or with Post Partum onset


Bipolar II Disorder


Characterized by one or more Major Depressive Episodes combined with at least one


Hypo-Manic Episode and such disturbance causes a significant disturbance in social or occupational functioning




Cyclothymic Disorder

Characterized by the presence of numerous periods of hypomanic symptoms and numerous periods of depressive symptoms that do not meet the criteria for a major depressive episode for a period of at least 2 years . During the 2 year period the person can not be without symptoms for more than2 months

Panic Attack

Characterized by a discrete period of intense fear or discomfort in which 4 or more of the following symptoms developed abruptly and reached and pea within 10 min

Characterized by a marked and persistent fear that is excessive or unreasonable and is triggered by the thought or presence of and object or situation

Characterized by a marked persistent fear that is excessive or unreasonable and I triggered by a social situations



OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER


Characterized by the development of characterized symptoms following exposure to a traumatic event or occurrence involving Direct personal experience of actual or threatened death or serious injur. Symptoms include the avoidance of stimuli associated with th trauma , the numbing of general responsiveness and increased arousal that was not present before the trauma.. e.g. difficulty sleeping, irritability, anger difficulty concentrating, hyper-vigilance or exaggerated startle response. Such symptoms must be present for at least 1 month



General Anxiety Disorder

Characaterized by excessive anxiety and worry occurring more days than not for aperiod of at least 6 months about certain events or activities, and the individual finds it difficulty to control the worry. Such anxiety or worry are associated by the presence of 3 or more of the following


1. restlessness


2. being easily fatigued


3 difficulty concentrating


4. irritability


5 muscle tension


6. sleep disturbance

SOMATAFORM DISORDERS



Somatization Disorder

Characterized by a history of recurring, multiple, clinically significant physical or somatic complaitns before the age of 30 that occur for a period of several years and results in treatment being sought or significant impairment in social or occupational functioning Such complaints must include 4 pain symptoms, 2 gastrointestinal symptoms, 1 sexual symptoms and 1 pseudo neurological symptom. Symptoms are not intentionally produced or feigned ( such as factitious disorder or malingering)




Conversion Disorder

Characterized by the presence of one or more symptoms affecting voluntary motor or sensory functions that suggest a neurological or other medical condition. Symptoms are not intentionally produced or feigned ( such as factitious disorder or malingering)



HYPOCHRONDRIASIS

Characterized by a preoccupation with fears of having a serious disease based on the persons own interpretation of bodily symptoms despite the results of appropriate medical evaluation and reassurance and such preoccupation causes an impairment in social or occupational functioning




FACTITIOUS DISORDERS

Characterized by the intentional production or feigning or physical or psychological symptoms motivated by the desire to assume the sick role



Note: this differs from Malingering, Malingering is when an individual is consciously motivated by an external incentive e.g. obtaining compensation, avoiding prosecution

Dissociative Amnesia

Characterized by the inability to recall important personal information usually of traumatic or stressful nature and such disturbance causes impairment social or occupational functioning



Dissociative Fugue

Characterized by sudden unexpected travel away from home , accompanied by the inability to recall ones past and confusion about personal identity and such disturbance cause impairment in social or occupational functioning



Dissociative identity Disorder

Formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder. Characterized by the presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states that recurrently tae control of the individuals behavior accompanied by the inability to recall important personal information and such disturbance is not caused by the direct physiological effects of a substance

Depersonalization Disorder

Characterized by persistent or recurrent feelings of being detached from one's body or mental processes accompanied by intact reality testing and such disturbance causes impairment in social occupational functioning

Characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating, inappropriate compensatory behavior to prevent weight gain e.g. self induced vomiting, laxatives and such behaviors occur at least twice a week for 3 months

Sleep Disorders'



Primary Insomnia

Characterized by difficulty initiating or maintain sleep for at least 1 month causing impairment in social occupational or academic functioning and such disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance

Characterized by excessive sleepiness for at least one month causing impairment in social, occupational or academic functioning and such disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance


Narcolepsy

Characterized by irresistible attacks of refreshing sleep that occur daily over at least 3 months where the individual experiences cataplexy, ie sudden bilateral loss of muscle tone often associated with intense emotion, and or recurrent intrusion of REM sleep and such disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance

IMPULSE CONTROL DISORDER



Intermittent explosive disorder

Characterized by episodes of failure to resist aggressive impulses that result in assaultive acts or destruction of property



Kleptomania

Characterized by the recurrent failure to resist the impulses to steal objects that not needed for personal use or for their monetary value in conjunction with increased tension prior the theft and pleasure or gratification at the time of the theft


Pyromania

characterized by the deliberate and purposeful fire setting on more than one occasion in conjunction with tension before the act fascination and interest in fire and pleasure or gratification when setting fires


Pathological gambling

Characterized by maladaptive gambling behavior as indicated by 5 or more of the following


1. preoccupation with gambling


2. need to gamble with increasing amounts of money to achieve excitement


3. repeated unsuccessful efforts to control or stop gambling


4. irritability when trying to control or stop gambling


5. gambles to excape problems


6after losing, returns to et even lies to family members and others about gambling


7. commits illegal acts to fund gambling


8. jeopardizing or losing significant relationships jobs or opportunities because of gambling and or relies on other to provide money to gamble



TRICHOTILLOMANIA


Characterized by the recurrent pulling out of one's hair resulting in noticeable hair loss in conjunction with tension prior to the act and pleasure or gratification at the time of the act

ADJUSTMENT DISORDER


Characterized by the development of emotional or behavior symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor with 3 months of the onset of the stressor as evidenced by either


1. marked distress


2. impairment in social or occupational functioning
