What's the mechanism of action?
Rapid acting cardiac glycoside with direct and indirect effects that increase force of myocardial contractions, increase refractory period of AV node, and increase total peripheral resistance.
whats the dosage for adults and pediatrics?
Adults - 10-15 mg/kg. peds - not recommended in prehospital setting.
What are the indications?
CHF, re-entry SVT (A-Flutter, A-FIB)
What are the contraindications?
V-FIB, V-TACH, digitalis toxicity, hypersensitivity to drug.
What are the side effects?
Headache, weakness, blurred yellow or green vision, confusion, seizures, arrhythmias, nausea, vomiting, and skin rash.
What's the classification?
Inotropic agent
Whats the duration of action?
Onset IV- 5-30 mins; Peak effect- 30-120 mins; Duration- several days
