What are artifacts?
Undesirable changes to digital images caused by the sensor and internal processing algorithms of the camera.
Blooming.
Problem.
Overflow of charge from an over saturated pixel to the next sensor. |
Solution.
Remedied with a wide angle or digital lens. |
Dead pixels.
Problem.
One or more photodiodes on the sensor are defective. |
Solution.
Buy new hardware. |
Demosaicing artifacts.
Problem.
High contrast colors side by side generate a different color at the meeting edge. |
Solution.
Requires a higher resolution to render color detail. |
Moire.
Problem.
Occurs when the scene has high frequency detail that is close to or higher than resolution of the camera. |
Solution.
Higher resolution. Move forward or back to adjust the frequency. |
Posterization.
Problem.
Limited dynamic range or too much post processing. |
What affects the quality of a digital image?
Resolution.
Color bit depth. Lens. Size of the CCD(Sensor). File format. Color interpolation. Resampling. Processing of the image. |
