What is it? |
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from an area of higher concentration gradient to an area of lower concentration gradient |
|
Where does it happen? |
It happens in both solutions and gases. Particles are free to move about randomly |
|
Example of diffusion |
Common Examples of Diffusion. You can smell perfume because it diffuses into the air and makes its way into your nose. A teabag placed in a cup of hot water will diffuse into the water. Placing food coloring in a liquid will diffuse the color. |
|
Conclusion |
The lower the concentration gradient, the slower the diffusion. Higher temperatures also gives a faster diffusion rate. (Particles have more energy). |
