S: Symptomatic patient or patient signing AMA, repeat blood sugar. Repeat blood sugar increases chance of needle stick.
U: Unnecessary for increased ICP/CVA with out hypoglycemia. Hypertonic solution can increase cerebral edema. G: Giving D50 for PED/NEO: discard 25 ml of D50W; aspirate 25ml of normal saline back into the pre-load which will give you 25% solution. A: Assessing the effecting of D50W administration. R: remember one bolus of D50W will not adversely effect the hyperglycemic patient S: Solution is necrotic with infiltration; make sure injection is intravenous; aspirate before/halfway through injection of D50W |
