What's the mechanism of action?
Increases serum glucose levels.
What's the dosage for adults and pediatrics?
Adults - 12.5-25g slow IV, repeat as necessary. Pediatric - .5-1.0 g/kg/dose slow IV repeat as necessary.
What's the indications?
Hypocalcemia, AMS, coma of unknown etiology, seizure of unknown etiology, status epilepticus.
What's the Contraindications?
Intracranial hemorrhage
What are the side effects?
Warmth, pain, burning, thrombophebitis, rhabdomyolysis, hyperglycemia.
