From what tissue type does the entire GI epithelial tissue arise?
Endoderm
Although all three layers, i.e. the endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm all contribute to the GI system, what contributes to the major organs of the GI? What organs does it give rise to?
Endoderm gives rise to the organs in the Foregut, Midgut, and Hindgut. You already know these regions from anatomy but you didn't realize that the foregut makes the esophagus, thyroid, lung, liver and pancreas too.
All three layers contribute to GI system. Describe their roles.
1. Endoderm: Foregut, Midgut, Hindgut
2. Mesoderm: Muscle (peristalsis) connective tissue
3. Ectoderm: neural crest derived enteric nervous system.
Note that the arteries coming off of the early aorta define regions of development. Specifically, what vessels give rise to the hindgut, midgut, and foregut?
Hindgut: Inferior mesenteric
Midgut: Superior mesenteric
Foregut: Celial artery
