How is the coelomic cavity/intra-embryonic coelom formed?
lateral and cephalo-caudal folding of embryo
when is the intraembryonic coelom formed?
4th week
what is the mesothelium
mesoderm lining the coelomic cavity
what are the 3 components of the mesothelium?
1) somatic mesoderm
2) splanchnic mesoderm
3) mesenteries
what is the somatic mesoderm?
parietal mesothelium lining plueral, pericardial and peritoneal cavity
what is the splanchnic mesoderm?
visceral layer of mesothelium that lines lungs, heart and abdominal organs
what is the mesenteries
two sided elongations of mesothelium lining the body wall and abdominal organs
What is the septum transverum?
mesoderm cranial to pericardial cavity
What are the four components of the diaphragm?
1) septum transversum
2) pleuroperitoneal membranes
3) dorsal mesoesophagus
4) lateral and dorsal body wall
How does the septum transversum assume its definitive position?
1) septum transversum starts out on the mesoderm outside of the yolk sac (so cranial to the heart)
2) head folds under
3) septum transversum now gets moved to a point below heart and above yolk stalk
When does the septum transversum assume its final position?
week 4
What is the final thing that happens to the septum transversum
it fuses with the mesenchyme ventral to the esophagus
What are the three principle body cavities of the adult?
Foregut
Midgut
Hindgut
What is in the foregut? (mneumonic)
PEDS
What is in the foregut (full explanation pls)?
Pharynx
Esophagus
Duodenum, upper 1/2
Stomach
What is in the midgut? (menumonic)
A CAT DJ

A CAT DJ
</img>
What is in the midgut full explanation
A ppendix
C Cecum
A scending colon
T Transverse Colon, right 2/3
D Duodenum, lower 1/2
J Jejunum
What is in the hindgut
D - Descending colon
S - Sigmoid Colon
R - Rectum
T - Left 1/3 of transverse colon
What accounts for the seperation of the plueral and pericardial cavities?
1) pleuropericardial folds form
2) pleuropericardial folds elongate towards the mdiline where they meet and fuse each other
How does the thoracic and abdominal wall become seperated?
1)septum transversum fuses dorsally with the plueroperitoneal membranes
2)pleuroperitoneal membranes fuse with the dorsal mesentery of the esophagus to close off pleuroperitoneal canals
What are the various parts of the embryonic diaphragm form in the adult?
1) septum transversum becomes central tendon
2) dorsal mesoesophagus becomes the crural of the diapram
3)lateral and dorsal body wall becomes the peripheral muscle of the adult diapraghm
How does the primitive gut tube form?
during cephalocaudal and lateral folding of embryo part of endoderm lined cavity is taken up into embryo to form primitive gut
What is the foregut of the embryo?
cephalic tube from buccopharyngeal membrane to anterior intestinal portal (end of foregut, start of midgut)
What is the midgut?
central region of primitive gut opens into the yolk sac via vitiline duct/yolk stalk
What is the hind gut?
posterior intestinal portal (end of midgut, beginning of hind gut)
to cloacal membrane
What is the relationship between the primitive gut tube and the primitive mesenteries?
the primitive gut is inside of the visceral peritoneaum
outside of that is the dorsal mesentery which is what holds the gut to the body wall
what is inside the peritoneal cavity
nothing but a small amount of fliud
what are the intraperitoneal organs?
organs suspended within the peritoneal cavity by a mesentery
What are retroperitoneal organs?
organs embedded in body wall and covered by peritoneum
What is secondary retroperitoneal organs?
Mesentery suspends some intraperitoneal organs but disspears and mesentery and organ fuses into body wall
when does the lung begin to develop?
day 22
What eventually happens to the chorionic cavity?
it gets obliterated as the amniotic cavity expands
what is the function of the dorsal and ventral mesentery
dorsal suspends the primtive gut from the body wall in most places and ventral suspends it in some places
when does the folding of the embryo complete
week 4
when does the thoracic cavity begin to seperate into 3
week 5
when does the amnion close the yolk sac and make it into an umbilical cord
week 7
when does the diapragm finally seperate
week 16 is when the canals close
