Describe sharp/dull sensory testing. |
Use Wartenberg pinwheels, alternate between dull and sharp and have the pt decide whether the sensation is then same or different. Compare sides of the body, proximal and distal, to identify patterns or innervation level of impairment. |
Describe two-point discrimination. |
Using a two-point caliper on the skin, identify one or two points w/o visual input. |
Describe localization of touch. |
The ability to identify the exact location of light touch on the body using a verbal response or gesturing. |
Common diagnoses that result in dermatomal damage. |
CNS deficit, plexus or peripheral nerve damage. |
demonstrate the dermatomes
