Tretinoin -- Use

Acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation

Tretinoin -- S/E

Burning, stinging, redness, scaling, peeling of the skin, sensitivity to light, hyperpigmentation



Rare with PO:


Hepatotoxicity, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, neutropenia

Tretinoin -- PT

Apply thin layer at night


Avoid sunlight during therapy


Pregnancy test needed before therapy.


8-12 weeks for it to be effective.

Isotretinoin -- S/E

Photosensitivity, suicidal ideations

Isotretinoin NI

Monitor: CBC, glucose, lipids, LFT


Do not use with a client with severe depression.


Use when other therapies fail


Typically uses for 4-6 months

Isotretinoin -- PT

Need two negative pregnancy tests.


Tested monthly.

Glucocorticoids -- NC

Super high potency -- used for acute conditions (2-3 weeks)


Moderate -- uses for longer therapy but no longer than 3 months


Low -- Kids

Permithrin -- S/E

Pruritus, rash, transient tingling, burning, stinging

Permithrin -- NC

All household members need to be checked & treated if infected.


Apply thin layer on affected area & leave on for a directed amount of time.

Permithrin -- PT

After treatment, remove nits from hair with nit comb.


Wash all bedlinens.
