Persistent depressive disorder

depressed mood on most days for 2 years, two or more of the following: poor appetite/overeating, insomnia/hypersomnia, low energy/fatigue, low self-esteem, poor concentration, difficulty making decisions, feeling of hopelessness

melancholic depression

lack of pleasure in all things or lack of positive reactivity to pleasurable things.


three of the following: distinct quality of depressed mood, worse in morning, early awakening, motor retardation, anorexia/weight loss, excessive guilt

Atypical depression

mood brightens in response to actual or possible positive events.

2 or more of the following: significant weight gain, hypersomnia, leadened paralysis, sensitive to social rejection.


MDD with psychotic features

meets full criteria for MDD, also has concurrent symptoms of psychosis: delusional thinking and hallucinations
