Representative Democracy

Infrequent public excercise over those in power

Radical Democracy

A form of democracy favouring decentralization

Classical Democracy

Based out of Athens, a form of direct Democracy, regular meetings if assembly

Developmental Democracy

Impacted Marxist and new left views. Based more out of community values, often dislikes political equality and wants an intelligent group to have higher power

Protective Democracy

Based out of 17th and 18th century view of public participation being a way for citizens to be protected from government enroachment. Appeals to liberal thinkers. Focus on natural rights

People's Democracy

Comes out of orthodox community regimes, connects to Marxism. No way to check the party in power, loss of accountability

Pluralist View

Competition between parties for power with a mix of ideologies in power, conflict of various interests

Elitist View

Critique of democracy and socialism, political power should always be recognized by an elite. Modern terms acknowledges this form falls short of the Democratic ideal (for some reason the US ideal is the ideal ideal???)

Corporatist View

Based out if facist italy. Involving economic interests in government. Free market shifts this

New Right View

Strong belief in the free market, fear if government overload. Doesn't agree with democracy due to how it brings about social transformation

Marxist View

Belief that political power reflects the distribution of economic power as well as wealth distribution. Power cannot be equally spread if classes are unequal
