C5 convertase
Any of several proteolytic enzymes that cleave complement component C5 to generate C5a and C5b. The enzyme is formed by the membrane attachment of a C3b molecule adjacent to either of the two types of C3 convertases. The C3b binds C5 which is then efficiently cleaved by the C3 convertase.
membrane-attach complex
Membrane pore structure of 7-10 nm in internal diameter formed from complement proteins C6, C7, C8 and C9 recruited to a membrane by C5b, and that is important in immune defense against some classes of bacteria.
SCR protein
Protein with short consensus repeats, which are seen on many complement regulatory proteins.
