Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet born in Florence, Italy between may 11-june 11 in the year 1265

Dante died on September 13 1321 at the age of 56 in Ravenna, Italy. Date was born into a wealthy family with a history of involvement in the Florentine political scene.

Dante most famous work was La Divina Commedia, now known as the Divine Comedy

The Divine Comedy is an imaginative vision of after life that is envisioned in the medieval world

The Divine Comedy made an unforgettable impression on literature and theology

It envisions the 3 tiers of afterlifeand divided into 3 parts (inferno-hell, Purgatory, and paradiso-heaven)

Divine Comedy represents allegorically- the souls journey towards god

Inferno represents represents the awareness of of the sin, purgatorio represents the Christian life and in paradiso, in which Beatrice guides dante through the nine celestial spheres of heaven.

It also helped establish the Tuscan language (which is what standard Italian is based off)
