Briefly describe the materials used for constructing the DA42 fuselage
Semi-monocoque molded contruction with CFRP for the skin and GFRP for strength and stiffness.

Center wing is bolted to the fuselage. It has mountings for the wings, engines, and landing gears.
Briefly describe the materials used for constructing the DA42 wings. How are they constructed?
Principally a sandwich construction with CFRP outerskin, rigid foam core, GFRP inner skin. Aluminum fuel tank in each wing.

2 'spars': one in the front and one in the back of the wing.
How are the Horizontal and Vertical Stabilizers constructed?
In a similar manner to the wings with 2 spars in each.
What does CFRP stand for?
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic
What does GFRP stand for?
Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic
Why is lightning protection necessary on the DA42?
Composite material cannot conduct electricity sufficiently, so all metal components in the aircraft are bonded to aluminum rods and strips.
