What are the signs and symptoms of heart disease?
- Chest pain or pressure (often reported as dullness or an aching or squeezing sensation)
- Radiation of pain to jaw, neck, back or arms
- Feel sweaty or clammy
- Nausea
- Dyspnea
- Dizziness (feels like they are passing out)
- Heartburn or epigastric pain
- Any symptom that is identical to a complaint during a previous proven cardiac event!
What signs and symptoms are less likely to be cardiac related?
- Dizziness (room spinning)
- Peri oral numbness
- Pain radiating into the legs
- Tingling in the fingers and face
- Sharp stabbing pain with inspiration
- Pain reproduced with palpation or position
- Rating of cardiac pain on 1-10 scale
(often panic attacks can mimic a heart attack)
What physical signs are indicative of heart conditions?
- Diaphoretic
- Clenching chest (Levine sign)
- Rales on lung auscultation
- New heart murmurs
- S3 Gallop (Floppy Heart)
- Jugular Venous Distention
- Peripheral Edema
- Pulsus alternans
- Hypotension and tachycardia

What are the cardiac risk factors?
- Age
Male > 45 or Female > 55 or premature menopause or hormone replacement therapy
- Family History
Before age 55 in father or 1st degree male relative or before age 65 in mother or 1st degree female relative
- Tobacco abuse
More so the more current
- Hypertension
- Hyperlipidemia
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Obesity
Does folic acid, vitamin E, and antioxidents help with cardiovascular disease?
