What are the divisions of the autonomic nervous system anatomically?
Where are the cell bodies of pregangionic neurons, respectively? |
SYMPATHETIC- (thoracolumbar) from T1 - L2 with cell bodies in the intromediolateral column
PARASYMPATHETIC- (craniosaccral) in the cranium and saccrum with cell bodies in brainstem nuclei or saccral autonomic nuclei of S2-S4 |
What are the main differences between cranial and spinal nerves?
1. Cranial nerves don't always have separate sensory/motor roots.
2. CN have different types of fiber composition. 3. CN don't always have dorsal root ganglion (but generally have equivalent). 4. NO SYMPATHETIC PREGANGLION FIBERS. |
Where are CN afferent cell bodies?
Cranial seonsory Ganglia
V-Trigeminal = Trigeminal Ganglion / Mesencephalic Nucleus of V VII-Facial = Geniculate Ganglion VIII-Vesibulocochlear = Vestibular Ganglion / Spiral Ganglion IX-Glossopharyngeal = Superior Ganglion / Inferior Ganglion X-Vagus = Superior and Inferior Ganglion |
Name the purely afferent CN:
1- Olfactory- sense of smell
2- Optic- eyesight 8- Vestibulochoclear- only sensation of gravity, balance, and hearing |
Where are the cell bodies of the purely afferent CN?
1- Olfactory- within the brain
2- Optic- within the brain 8- Vestibulochoclear- in Superior and Inferior ganglia |
What are the mixed afferent and efferent nerves?
5- Trigeminal
7- Facial 9- Glossopharyngeal 10- Vagus 12-Hypoglossal |
What are the purely efferent / motor CN?
3- Occulomotor
4- Trochlear 6- Abducens 11-Spinal Accessory |
What two CN are involved in receiving taste information?
7- Facial- anterior 2/3
9- Glossopharyngeal- posterior 1/3 |
