Burglary

The taking of property from inside the premises or a locked safe or vault by a person who commits forcible entry into, or exit from, the property of another while trespassing

Robbery

The taking of property from the care and custody of a person who has been caused or threatened with bodily harm

Theft

The broadest of the crime coverage, theft includes the act of stealing


Mysterious Disappearance

The loss of property when the cause of loss is not known. This is NOT theft, burglary or robbery

Frame

A building that has a roof, floor, and supports of combustible material, usually wood, and combustible interior walls

Joisted Masonry

Buildings with exterior walls of masonry (no less than 4 inches thick) less than one hour and with combustible floors and roofs

Noncombustible

the buildings and its walls, floors and structural framework are constructed of noncombustible materials

Masonry Noncombustible

Buildings with exterior walls of masonry (not less than 4 inches thick) or made of fire restrictive constructions with a rating of not less than one hour and noncombustible floors and roofs

Fire Resistive

The entire building and roof are constructed of reinforced concrete and steel. Must have at least a 2 hour fire resistive rating

Modified Fire Resistive

The materials used in the walls, floors, and roof of a structure must have a fire resistive rating of at least 1 hour but less than 2 hours

DP-1 (Basic Form)

Perils insured against are fire, lightning and internal explosion.. additional premium is paid for (EC) also includes: Wind story or hail, Explosion, riot and civil commotion, Aircraft and vehicles, smoke, volcanic eruption.. DP-2 (Broad form)

Insures against: DP1 perils, the EC perils, VVM. Also, Damage by burglars, falling objects, weight of ice snow or sleet, accidental discharge or overflow of water or steam, sudden and accidental tearing apart, cracking, burning or bulging, freezing, sudden and accidental damage from artificially generated electrical current

how are losses paid on DP1?

Losses to the dwelling and other structures and contents are paid on an actual cash value basis

how are losses paid on DP2?

Losses to the dwelling and other structures are paid on a replacement cost basis and losses to personal property are paid on an actual cash value basis.

DP-3 (Special Form)

Coverage for the dwelling and other structures is provided on an open perils basis, meaning coverage is provided for all causes of loss except for those perils specifically excluded.

Coverage A (DP policy)

Dwelling; includes structures attached to dwelling, materials and supplies on or next to dwelling used to improve or repair dwelling or other structures on property, building and outdoor equipment (unless otherwise insured) LAND IS NOT INCLUDED. Coverage A limit is a specific limit. chosen by named insured @ the time coverage is applied.


Coverage B (DP policy)

Other Structures: other structures on the described location if separated or detached from dwelling by clear space. No coverage is provided for structures rented to tenants (unless dwelling is rented solely as a private garage) No land coverage. No coverage for structures used for commercial, manufacturing or farming purposes.

Coverage C (DP policy)

Personal Property: Coverage applies to household and personal property Can apply to property of a guest or servant, can not apply to tenant or boarder. Not included: money (and form), animals, aircraft and watercraft (rowboats and canoes covered) data. Insured may use up to 10% of Cov C loss caused by insured peril anywhere in the world.

Coverage D (DP policy)

Fair Rental Value: provides insurance for indirect losses that occur as a result of direct losses to property insured under Cov A,B,C. Limit is upto 20% of Cov A limit.


Coverage E(DP policy)

Additional Living Expenese: for indirect losses that occur as a result of direct losses to propert insured under Cov A,B, and C. Included on DP2&3, not DP1. Pays necessary increases in living expenses. Cov E limit is up to 20% of Cov A. exp: cost of hotel room, boarding pets and dinning out

Personal liability supplement

HO2(broad form)

provides coverage for named perils (Coverage A), other structures (Coverage B) and personal property (Coverage C). Perils are; Fire or lightening, windstorm or hail, explosion, riot or civil commotion, aircraft, vehicles, smoke, VMM, theft, falling objects, weight of ice snow or sleet, accidental discharge or overflow of water or steam, sudden and accidental tearing apart cracking burning, freezing, sudden and accidental damage from artificially generated electrical current, volcanic eruption (losses under coverage A and B are valued on ACV)

HO3 (special form)

dwelling and other structures (coverages A&B) insured on open perils. losses to the dwelling and other structures are on RV basis. Coverage C same 16 peril basis. includes fences, driveways, walk caused by a vehicle owned or operated by the insured.

HO4 (contents broad form, renters)

renters insurance. covers against the 16 named broad form perils. ACV basis.

HO6 (unit owners/ condo)

named perils under Coverage A and C. Condo

HO5 (Comp. Form/best)

Broadest form. Coverage A,B,C losses to dwelling and other structures are on a RC is personal property is based on a ACV

HO8 (modified form)

used to insure older homes, insurance amount should be for the amount that the functional replacement value of the dwelling to replace damaged proper with property that will perform the same function and efficiency

Coverage A (HO) Dwelling

when limit of liability is chosen for Coverage A the other 3 (B C and D) are automatically issued at limit equaling a specific percentage. Usually insurer requires insured to purchase insurance in an amount no less than 80% of the dwellings replacement value. If 80% replacement cost not carried ACV will apply

Coverage B (HO) other Structures

structures that are set apart from dwelling. sheds, detached garage, built in pools etc. Insurance limit is 10% of the coverage A limit of liability does not reduce the coverage of coverage A limit of liability and may be increased by endorsement

Coverage C (HO) personal property

covers property of insured anywhere in the world. can request that others property be covered after a loss. . roomers boarders and tenants property not covered. this insurance is 50% of Coverage A limit of liability.. does not reduce the Coverage A limit of liability may be increased by endorsement

Coverage D(HO) loss of use

for indirect or consequential loss. Additional living expenses, fair rental value and civil authority prohibits use

Additional Coverages (HO)

Section 1 endorsement (HO)

Section 2 liability coverage

same in all HO coverage forms and provides coverage for personal liability and medical payments to others

Coverage E(HO) Personal Liability

insurance for claims made and suits brought against the insured bc of BI or PD caused by an occurrence to which the insurance applies.

Coverage F(HO) medical payments

pays for the necessary medical expenses incurred within 3 yrs from the date of an accident causing bodily injury without regard or fault. covers injury by animal
