Confederation
a group of people with common ideas and interests, as in the colonies.
Articles of Confederation
it made all of the states one country, yet still gave each state their own power. however, the framers where weary of an all powerful govt, so they were cautious in the powers given.
Northwest Ordinance of 1787
provided for the creation of new states. a governor, secretary, and three judges would be named to that area of land, and then when there were 5000 men, the land would become a state and could make their own laws
Shay's Rebellion
farmer's protested and wanted to close courts in fear that the creditors would take their farms
The Great Compromise
there would be a bicameral legislature, house or reps based on population, and senate with a set number of reps per state
Popular Sovereignty
the government derives its power from the consent of the people.
Limited Government
the government only has the power that the Constitution gives it.
Separation of Powers
three branches of govt with different roles and responsibilities to prevent one from dominating

1. demanded more paper money, tax relief, relief for debtors, and end to imprisonment for debt
2. It swung many people over to demanding a change in the national government
