Define compliance, identification and internalistation

Compliance - agree publicly but not privately, to gain approval and desire to fit in, weak and temporary, eg. claim to support team but may actually have no interest in it



Identification - public and private but temporary, to gain group acceptance, eg. social norms = leaving army not army behaviour



Internalisation - public and private acceptance, adopt majority group belief, eg. religious belief

Explain ISI and NSI

ISI - a motivational force to look to others for guidance in order to be correct, eg. watch films and ask what think and adopt their thoughts, Jenness (1932) looked for guidance in group.



NSI - a motivational force to be liked and acceptance by a group, eg. Asch (1955) conform to incorrect answers "I didn't want to look stupid"
