What is the conduction system of the heart?
Heart's electrical system that stimulates the heart to contract.
Give the 4 main parts of the heart conduction system.
Sinoatrial Node (SA)
Atrioventricular Node (AV)
Bundle of His
Purkinje Fibers
Sinoatrial Node Function
"Pacemaker"
superior aspect of R Atrium
60-100 impulses per minute
responsible for atria contraction w/atrioventricular node
Atrioventricular Node Function
inferior aspect of R Atrium
40-60 impulses per minute
responsible for atria contraction w/sinoatrial node
Bundle of His Function
Gives last back up with 20-40 impulses
Located in the septum of heart which divides right and left
Support and conduct contraction of ventricles
Purkinje Fibers Function
Allow ventricle muscles to contract in unison for a strong contraction
Located in myocardium (ventral walls)
