What is the purpose of the boiler feed pump arc valve?

To maintain a minimum flow through the boiler feed pump

Where are the breakers for the 300 HRU PO4 pumps?

300 electrical package

What is the normal HP discharge pressure 100 / 200 boiler feed pump?

1800 - 2200 psi

What would make the pressure on the discharges of the BFP's vary?

Plant loading

What is the normal LP discharge pressure of 100 / 200 BFP's?

325 - 375 psi

What is the normal HP discharge pressure of 300 BFP?

1600 - 1800 psi

What is the normal MP discharge pressure of 300 BFP?

450 - 550 psi

What is 3 element control?

It looks at FW flow, drum level, and steam flow to calculate an output to send the level control valve.

Explain the aux operator actions upon loss of a BFP.

Ensure standby pump is started, check the other BFP for damage.

Explain what to do in the event of a high DP alarm on a BFP suction strainer?

Swap BFP's, write work order to clean / calibrate DP transmitter. If unsuccessful, clean suction strainer.

What chemical is used to manipulate the PO4 levels of the feed water?

Betz optisperse

Where would you go to find PPE requirements when handling a Betz chemical?

ES PPE grid

What is the normal discharge pressure of 1220 condensate pumps?

155 - 165 psi

What sources does T1250 receive water from?

Condensate from P1, Demin, West return.

Alternate source block 39.

What is the capacity of T1250?

500,000 gallons

What effect does hot condensate have on the system?

It can lead to flashing in the preheater section.

What must be done if the duct burners are lost on 100 / 200?

Open the DA dump bypass to maintain adequate flow through the preheater to avoid hammering.

What determines how many P-1220 pumps are online?

Condensate load I the plant.

What would happen if you were to keep both 100 / 200 BFP's running with less than 450,000 lbs/hr steam load?

This could cause damage to the thrust bearing of the pumps

What is the purpose of cortrol?

It is an O2 scavenger; it's injected into the DA water to ensure that dissolved O2 levels are kept at a minimum to prevent tube damage.

How is it possible for the water in the DA to still be in liquid state even though it has passed it's boiling point of 212° F

The boiling point increases as the pressure increases.

What are the 3 main purposes of the DA and storage tank? What pressure are they operated at?

To preheat, remove dissolved oxygen, and to store condensate prior to use in the HRSG. The DAs operate on the 30# header.

Where are the MUP 8 & 9 breakers located?

The 2400v bus in B-3704

What is the purpose of MOV 1250?

It is used to supply condensate to P2 block in the event that T-1250 is down or lost.

When hydroing a HRU, should feed water be taken from before or after the feed water regulator? Why?

Feedwater should be taken from Before the regulator. If it is taken from d/s the regulator this could lead to level issues because the HRU could be starved of FW.

What is the purpose of the 300 RAC?

The RAC is a heat exchanger that uses condensate on one side and GT air on the other. It heats the condensate and cools the air prior to going back into the turbine rotor.

What does it mean if water is noticed at the RAC drain when the turbine is shut down?

It indicates there is a leak in the RAC tunes and this should be repaired prior to starting to prevent damage to the turbine.

What is the purpose of the HRU condensate return station?

It returns a portion of the condensate prior to entry into the DA to help control temperature by creating a demand through the condensate system (preheater & RAC). If flow was stopped due to the DA inlet valve going closed this would lead to overheating in the RAC / preheater and cause flashing.

What is the purpose of the mixing Tee?

It uses condensate prior to entry to the preheater to inject into the condensate prior to sending it back to the condensate return header to ensure flashing does not occur in the West return.

What should be done if high temperature is noted in the BFP 300A Lube oil Reservoir?

The coolers should be back flushed by blocking the inlet b/v and opening a bleed to force water from the return header to flow backward through the cooler.

Where is the breaker located for the HRU 300 HP FW shutoff MOV?

300 electrical package West wall.

What should be done by the aux operator if the level in the HRU became extremely high?

CCR operators will close the FW shutoff and open the mud drum blow down. You may be asked to Crack the bypasses around the mud drum blow down valves. The HP SH drains should be cracked to avoid water carryover into the HP steam header.

Where does the DA 2" fill take off? What does this mean for isolation?

The fill is taken from the mixing tee (via the BFP seal water coolers). If the DA is going going to stay lined up this could introduce energy into the preheater section of the HRU
