The degree to which a person feels power to control circumstances in his or her life.

Most adults have a better locus of control than kids in school.
Acrostic?
A sentence that is made up of the first letter of key words in a list of items to remember.

In math class we made a acrostic for the order of operations.
Active reading?
Is the process of using effective strategies to engage working memory to achieve specific reading goals.

When reading a text book I make sure to use active reading to remember everything.
SQ4R?
A six step system for reading and comprehending textbook chapters.

In order to completely understand what you are reading it is wise to use SQ4R.
Caption?
A short explanation that accompanies a graphic.

Most young or rookie readers will not read captions while reading books.
Legend?
Defines or gives values for the symbols used in graphic.

When reading a map you should make sure read the legend to understand symbols on the map.
Pie charts?
Also called circle graphs, show a whole unit divided into individually labelled parts.

In math we use pie charts every day to show the way the percentages are seperated.
