RAM Memory
Temporary storage area where data is stored before processing, output, or storage. RAM is the center of flow of data and information within the information processing cycle.
Hard Drive
A spiral disk containing the long term memory of a computer. Contains series of 1s and 0s telling the compute how to use programs and data.
USB
Universal Serial Bus. A port on a computer where a variety of devices can interface with a computer and exchange data or enable input.
CPU
Central Processing Unit. The unit responsible for getting data from memory, performing arithmetic and logical operations, and converting data to information.
Flash Drive
A memory storage device that plugs into the USB port of a computer. It allows for files to be portable.
.exe
a file extension that runs a program. This will open up things like Firefox, GIMP, or Alice. They are different from other files in that they pull together other files into one program.
WYSIWYG
An acronym for "What you see is what you get". In computer terms it means that what you see on the screen is what other people will see on the screen.
