- Patches should be applied to non-irritated and non-irradiated skin on flat surface of the upper torso. Do not apply to extremities below the knee or elbow. Hair at the application site should be clipped (not shaved) prior to system application. If application site has to be cleaned, do so with clear water. Do not use soap, oils, or lotions, alcohol, or any other agent that might irritate skin or alter its characteristics. Allow the skin to dry completely prior to system application.
- Patches should be applied immediately upon removal from the sealed package. The transdermal system should be pressed firmly in place with palm of hand for 10-20 seconds, making sure contact is complete, especially around the edges.
- Each patch may be worn continuously for 72 hours. If analgesia for more than 72 hours is required, a new system should be applied to a different skin site after removal of the previous transdermal system?
- Used system should be folded so adhesive side of the system adheres to itself, then flushed down toilet upon removal. Patients should dispose of any systems remaining from a prescription as soon as they are no longer needed. Unused systems should be removed from their pouch and flushed down the toilet. Keep out of reach of children and pets, even after removal.
- Do not cut or puncture system.
- Promptly report any difficulty in breathing or fever to a physician.
