Democracy

Means we have a say in who we vote for. You must be 18 years or older to vote.

Bilingualism

Canada has two official languages: English and French. The official languages act guarantees that no matter where you live in Canada, information will be available in both languages

Universal healthcare

In 1966, Canadians recognized that everyone deserves the right to healthcare. As a result Medicare, also known as universal healthcare, became law. Doctors are paid by the government.

Freedom of religion

Christianity was the most common religious practice in Canada until more immigrants arrived. The Canadian human rights act states that other religious groups can take time off work to celebrate holy days, like Catholics do with Christmas and Easter

Diversity and inclusiveness

Diversity means people come from many countries, speak different languages, and have unique ways of living. Inclusiveness means we embrace these differences.
