Standard width for a tactical corridor
3 NM. (V3 Ch16)
Day VMC en route altitude
Fly no lower than 300 fee AGL modified contour altitude above the terrain. (V3 Ch16)
NVG en route altitude
Fly no lower than an indicated altitude of 500 feet above the highest spot terrain elevation or 400 feet plus one basic contour interval. (V3 Ch16)
Non-NVG en route altitude
Fly no lower than MSA. (V3 Ch16)
Man made obstacles
All man-made obstacles must be avoided by 1 NM laterally or 500 feet vertically unless visually identified. (V3 Ch16)
IMC en route altitude
Fly no lower than 1,000 feet (2k in mountainous terrain) above the highest obstruction to flight with in 5 NM of route centerline. (V3 Ch16)
MSA
Minimum Safe Altitude is an initial VFR alt. that provides additional clearance. Plan at 500' (or 400 + 1 contour) above highest obstruction with in 5 NM. (V3 Ch16)
ESA
Emergency safe altitude is designed to provide IMC terrain clearance during emergency. Add 1,000' (2k in mountainous) to highest obstruction with in 22 NM of centerline. (V3 Ch16)
Day VMC drop altitude
Minimum airdrop altitudes as specified in AFI 11-231 visually avoiding terrain and obstacles. (V3 Ch16)
NVG Drop Altitude
After slowdown, when the drop zone is in sight, and will remain in sight, or when a positive position is identified and terrain/obstruction clearance is assured you may drop down to 231 min drop altitude. (V3 Ch16)
Non-NVG Drop Altitude
Fly no lower than an indicated altitude of 500 feet (400 + 1 contour) above highest obstruction to flight within in 3 NM of flight. (V3 Ch16)
IMC Drop Altitude
500 feet (400 + 1 contour) above the highest obstruction to flight within 3 NM of the run-in centerline from DZ entry point to DZ exit point.
Primary reference for low level nav
Digital Map Display. (V3 Ch16)
OAP location
Ideally offset aim points should be 5 -10 miles apart and approximately 45 degrees off of plotted course if able. (V3 Ch16)
Required Nav Accuracy for airdrops
For all airdrops and self-contained approaces plan to verify nav accuracy within 10 minutes of slowdown/FAF. IMC routes accuracy will be checked hourly. (V3 Ch16)
Route study
Crew route study is mandatory before low level flights. minimum: aircrew coordination, division of duties and threats. (V3 Ch16)
