Hue

Color

Pure hue

a color without the addition of tint (white), shade (black), or tone (grey)

Primary colors

a set of colors that can be mixed together in different ways to make other colors (Red, Yellow, & Blue). However, red, yellow, and blue cannot be mixed from other hues - they are created from materials found in nature.

Secondary colors

made by mixing two primary colors together. (Violet, Green & Orange)

Intermediate (Tertiary) Colors

made by mixing one primary color with one secondary color. (Yellow-Green, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet, Red-Violet, Red-Orange, Yellow-Orange).

Complementary

2 colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel.

Monochromatic

the tints, shades, and tones of a single hue (light to dark).

Triadic

the yellows, oranges, and reds of the color spectrum, associated with fire, heat, sun, and warmer temperatures; also called hot colors.

Cool
