Self- Esteem
The perception you have of yourself as a human being.

In order to have a functioning relationship, you need to have a good self-esteem.
Feedback
The process of verifying how accurately and thoroughly you have or have not learned specific information.

When I received feedback on my assignment from my professor, I realized I hadn't remembered the right information.
Selectivity
The process of identifying and seperating main ideas and important details from a larger body of information.

The information you decide to use when writing a summary of what was just read is done through the process of selectivity.
Concentration
The ability to block out distractions in order to stay focused on one specific item or task.

When studying while watching t.v. and texting, I find I lose concentration and focus.
Intention
The process of creating a purpose or a goal to act or perform in a specific way.

His intention was to do the right thing.
Ongoing review
The process of practicing previously learned information.

It is important to use ongoing review in order to do well on tests and quizzes.
Spaced practice
Also known as distributed practice involves making multiple contacts with new information and spreading this contact over several days or weeks.

When making a study schedule, I make sure to use spaced practice, which makes me study the same subject on several sperate ocassions.
Intrinsic reward
Emotions or feelings that a person experiences when a goal is achieved.

After recieving an A in math, I let myself recieve a non physical goal, an intrinisc reward.
ABC method
A goal setting strategy to prioritized your goals according to rank of importance.

When I have a day off, I use the ABC method to decide which chores are the most important to complete.
Warm-ups
Activities at the beginning of a study block that shift thoughts and create a mindset for studying and concentrating.

The tutor gave his student warm ups at the start of each session from the review portion of the book.
Stress
Constraining force or influence.

She worked out everyday as a way to relieve stress.
Welfare
Aid in the form of money or necessities for those in need.

She taught the class about child welfare organizations such as WIC.
Neglect
To give little attention or respect to.

His daughter was left alone for a week and told her teacher of the neglect she went through.
Termination
End in time or existence.

After the girl turned 18, she terminated all of her parents rights.
Family
A group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation.

She considered the people at her new foster home a family.
Counseling
Professional guidance of the individual by utilizing psychological methods especially in collecting case history data, using various techniques of the personal interview, and testing interests and aptitudes.

After her parents divorced, she decided to receive counseling from her church.
Abuse
A corrupt practice or custom.

The dog received much abuse after his owners would get in heated arguements.
Power
Possession of control, authority, or influence over others.

His wife never let him spend money and held his credit cards hostage in order to maintain power in the relationship.
Classical conditioning
Conditioning in which the conditioned stimulus (as the sound of a bell) is paired with and precedes the unconditioned stimulus (as the sight of food) until the conditioned stimulus alone is sufficient to elicit the response (as salivation in a dog).

Dwight kept wanting a mint after Jim had trained him through classical conditioning.
Judge
A public official authorized to decide questions brought before a court.

The judge decided the family should stay together after hearing their case.
