The US was well off after the war how ever many European countries were war-torn. This is where the Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine come in to aid countries in Europe that were suffering under communism and War.

After World War II hostility between the US and Soviet Union resulted in the Cold War. A basic arms race between the Soviet Union and the u. S. And a fight against communism and capitalism.

Korean War

The Korean war was a test of America's commitment to its containment policy. The Korean War turn into a stalemate along the 38th parallel and in 1953, a ceasefire deal is reached (not a formal end to the war)

Describe the arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

An arms race is a race to develop and match each other's new weapons. The United States and the Soviet Union both fought for Dominion in the arms race by 1953, both sides had hydrogen bombs. However MAD, mutually assured destruction, guaranteed both countries would be destroyed if one launched a nuclear warhead, discouraging nuclear war. Deterrence was a policy of making the military power of the United States and its allies so strong that no enemy would dare attack for fear of retaliation. By 1961, there were enough bombs to destroy the world.



This lead on to the space race which was an informal race between the US and the Soviet Union to explore outer space.
