Stratus clouds
LOW LEVEL LAYERED clouds that form as the earth cools the moist air above it or when moist, stable air flows up sloping terrain. They may cause low ceilings and poor visibility.

LOW LEVEL RAIN CLOUDS Gray or black rain clouds, lower level clouds, can be several thousand feet thick and pose serious icing risks
Stratocumulus
LOW LEVEL PUFFY WHITE clouds. Formed when stratus layers break up or cumulus clouds spread out.
Fog
VERY LOW LYING CLOUD, THICK LAYERS CLOSE TO THE GROUND. Fog typically forms as soon as temperature and dew point approach each other.
Radiation Fog
When the ground cools quickly at night, cooling the overlying air creating fog. Usually develops in moist stable air on clear calm nights in high pressure areas.
