Corneal Arcus
thin grayish whict arc or circle note at the edge of the cornea, accompanies normal ageing but also seen in younger people, suggest hyperlipoproteinemia (usually benign)
Corneal Scar
sufperficial grayish white opacity in cornea, secondary to an old injury or to inflammation. Size and shape are variable. Do not confuse with cataract, visible on deeper plan and only through the pupil
Pterygium
triangular thickening of the bulbar conjunctiva that grows slowly across the outer surface of the cornea usually from the nasal side
Cataracts
Nuclear and Peripheral Cataracts
Nuclear- looks gray when seen by flashlight. If pupil is widely dialated the gray opacity is sourrounded by black rim
Peripheral cataract- produces spokelike shadows that point inward (gray against black as seen with flashlight inward to center of pupil)
