Schedule IV Preg:D
Class: Benzodiazepine, anesthetic adjunct & anti-anxiety
Indications: Minimize effects of withdrawal by CNS depression
Action: CNS depression Therapeutic Effects: Decreased SZ’s & Sedation
Dose: PO 1-3mg 2-3 x daily max of 10mg/day IV 0.05mg/kg up to 4mg max of 8mg/12hr (Avoid rapid infusion to avoid arrest – 2mg/min or 0.05mg/kg over 2-5 min)

Metabolized mainly by Liver
Contraindications: pts w/ CNS depression, severe hypotension, sleep apnea & severe hepatic renal or pulmonary impairment.
Adverse Rxn/ S.E.: Decreased respirations, Apnea, Cardiac Arrest and dizziness.
Interactions: other benzodiazepines
NC: Assess BP prior to, assess anxiety prior to, do not confuse w/ atarax.
