Left atrium

the left upper chamber of the heart, receives oxygen-rich blood from the pulmonary veins and pumps blood to pulmonary veins.

Right atrium

the upper right chamber of the heart, receives deoxygenated blood from the superior and inferior vena cava and then sent to the right ventricle.

Coronary arteries:

supplies the heart muscle (myocardium) with oxygen rich blood, runs outside the heart and branches out to each side.

Coronary veins:

takes deoxygenated blood away from the heart and to the coronary sinus.-

Anterior vena cava:

deoxygenated blood from body to heart, veins from upper body feed into cava, empties into the right atrium-Posterior

vena cava:

deoxygenated blood to the heart, from the lower body, empties into right atrium-

Aorta:

largest artery receives oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricle and transports to all parts of the body

-Pulmonary artery:

the artery carrying blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs for oxygenation

a vein carrying oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart

Pulmonary trunk:

a blood vessel that divides to form the left and right pulmonary arteries, receives blood from right ventricle-

Atrioventricular valves:

Tricuspid Valve: controls blood flow between right atria and right ventricle.

Bicuspid Valve (mitral):

controls blood flow between left atria and left ventricle.

Chordae tendineae:

"heart strings" are tiny white collagenic cords that anchor the valves to the ventricular walls, prevent the atrioventricular valves from opening again once closed. They originate from the papillary muscles

Pulmonary Valve:

Stands at the opening from the right ventricle in the pulmonary artery trunk. The pulmonary valve moves blood toward the lungs and keeps it from backflowing from the pulmonary artery into the heart.

Semi-lunar valves:

each of a pair of valves in the heart, at the bases of the aorta and the pulmonary artery, consisting of three cusps or flaps that prevent the flow of blood back into the heart.

Aortic Valve:

located between the left ventricle and the aorta, lets blood from the left ventricle to be pumped up into the aorta but prevents blood once it is in the aorta from backflowing to the heart.-Septum: separates the left ventricle from the right ventricle.
